We monitor our appointment requests several times a day and will usually reply within one business day during open hours.
*IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU EAT BEFORE YOUR SURGICAL APPOINTMENT!
1. Do Not Brush Surgical Site!!
2. Hold (no swishing) Periogard in your mouth twice daily:
-Once after breakfast (Remember to brush non-surgerized teeth before swishing)
-Once before bedtime
3. Do not eat or drink for one hour after swishing with Periogard
4. Hold (no swishing) warm salt water in your mouth twice daily (at times other than when you use periogard)
5. Take pain medication as directed (you can combine Tylenol with Motrin)
Take over-the-counter decongestant for sinus lift only
6. Drink plenty of water with your medication and throughout the healing process.
7. If swelling is noted within first 48 hours, use an ice pack (on 15minutes/off 15 minutes)
Swelling occurring after 48 hours should be treated with steam (on 15 minutes/off 15 minutes)
Alert Dr. Moses if swelling occurs
8. Patient’s should maintain a well balanced diet throughout the healing process
9. Use a dampened tea bag if bleeding occurs (place on tongue and close)
10. Avoid drinking through straws!!
Additional Instructions For Gingival Graft Patients:
11. Do Not Bite into “Anything” with your front teeth
12. If periodontal bandage becomes loose, phone Dr. Moses
13. If palatal bleeding occurs, lie down and relax with pressure applied to the palate using gauze or the surgical stent
14. Remember to anticipate a blood clot when removing the surgical stent the first time
15. The stent is given to you for your comfort. We recommend it be used at least during meals & while sleeping.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PATIENTS:
Patients prescribed Vicodin, Percocet or Darvocet for pain:
Do not take over-the-counter pain medications with these prescription drugs. Tylenol/Acetaminophen can be substituted for but not taken with these prescription drugs.
Patients prescribed Motrin 800mg for pain:
Do not take over-the-counter ibuprofen (such as Advil, Aleve, Naproxen, etc.) with Motrin 800mg. If you have been prescribed another anti-inflammatory drug, do not take with Motrin 800mg.
If Vicodin, Percocet or Darvocet are not controlling your pain, then you may switch to the Mepergan Fortis (a stronger pain medication),but DO NOT take these prescriptions together. We recommend filling the prescription for Meprergan Fortis ONLY if necessary.
