CEREC
CEREC is a sophisticated computer-aided system for producing durable high-quality ceramic restorations. It is designed to conserves as much natural tooth structure as possible while increasing the strength of the already weakened tooth. CEREC is ideal for patients who want an authentic tooth-coloured alternative to amalgam or gold. In many cases CEREC allows tooth restorations to be completed in a single session – without impressions, temporaries or long waiting periods.
The Procedure
Typically an appointment will be made for 1 ½ - 2 hours. The first step is to remove the dental caries (decay) and / or the existing filling. The CEREC measuring optical camera then takes a three-dimensional photograph of your tooth. Then Dr. Bartsch will use th digitized image to design the contours of your new ceramic restoration on the computer right in front of you. Once Dr. Bartsch has designed the restoration to meet the conditions of your mouth, CEREC automatically mills the restoration out of a tooth-coloured ceramic block.
Finally, the restoration is fitted in your mouth and polished to a high glaze. The finished ceramic restoration looks just like natural dental enamel. The results will amaze you. Once bonded, your tooth’s strength has been improved and the longevity of your tooth has been ensured.
