FAQ
What is endodontics?
This procedure will be performed using local anesthesia. There are usually no restrictions after the procedure concerning driving or returning to work. A doctor is available for consultation at all times should a problem arise after your treatment.
I am worried about x-rays. Should I be?
What happens after treatment?
How much will it cost?
The cost associated with endodontic procedures varies with many factors such as the severity of the damage to the affected tooth and which tooth is affected. In general, endodontic treatment is much less expensive thatn tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.
What is Microscopic and Microsurgical Root Canal Treatment?
One of the most revolutionary developments in contemporary endodontics has been the utilization of the dental operating microscope (DOM). This invaluable piece of equipment provides superior visualization of the internal anatomy of your tooth by providing increased magnification, as well as increased illumination of the operating field, thereby increasing the rate of success. Obviously, the better the doctor can see, the better the final results will be. Without the DOM, tiny details of the internal tooth structure, such as the presence of a fracture or a hidden canal, are often missed. As a result, the care is compromised or inadequate and leads to treatment failure with the likelihood of having the root canal therapy redone.
At ECC, the DOM is not only used sparingly in select cases or situations. It is used in ALL cases and throughout the entire treatment procedure. Microscopic and microsurgical refer the the fact that all phases of treatment, from start to finish, are performed under the enhanced illumination and magnification of a DOM. In addition, special micro instruments are used in conjunction with the DOM to delicatedly perform surgical procedures that require precision in the range of 200 1000 micrometers (0.20 - 1.00 mm).
Although the use of the DOM has not yet been made compulsory under the standards of care, we strongly believe in performing endodontics using the best that technology has to offer and are firmly committed to utilizing all technological advances in all aspects of out treatment and care. In fact, our DOMs are also equipped with tiny video cameras to help document our findings for enhanced communication to the patient and referring dentist.
